About Road Hop

Road Hop is an endless crossing game. Your little toy bunny hops one square at a time across meadows, busy roads, rivers and railway lines. Time your hops between the cars, ride the logs over the water, wait for the train to pass, and keep moving: the view creeps forward on its own, and if you fall behind it, the run is over.

How to play Road Hop

1. Tap the board, or press Up, W or Space, to hop forward one square. Your first hop starts the run.
2. Swipe left, right or down to hop that way, or use the arrow keys or WASD.
3. Cross roads in the gaps between cars and trucks. Each lane has its own speed and direction.
4. Cross rivers by hopping onto floating logs or lily pads. Logs carry you along with them; the water itself is deadly.
5. At a railway, watch the red light. When it flashes, a fast train is about to come through.
6. Your score is the furthest row you have reached. Pick up coins on the way for a bonus count.
7. Press P or the pause button to pause. The game pauses by itself when you switch tabs.

Rules

• Each hop moves exactly one square. Trees block you, and so do the sides of the board.
• You can hop again while a hop is still in the air: the next hop is saved and taken the moment you land.
• A car, truck or train touching you ends the run. Their hit areas are trimmed a little at each end, so a near miss is a miss.
• On a river you must stand on a log or a lily pad. Landing in the water, or riding a log off the side of the board, ends the run.
• Hopping off a log onto dry land puts you in the middle of the nearest square.
• The view moves forward slowly by itself, a little faster the further you get. If you drop off the bottom of the view, the run ends.
• The world is built at random from a seed, but it is always crossable: every meadow has a gap in its trees you can reach, cars always leave room to hop through, logs are never too far apart, and there is always a quiet spell between trains.
• Medals: bronze at row 25, silver at 60, gold at 120. Your best score and your all-time coin total are saved in your browser.

Road Hop tips and strategy

• Watch the lane ahead, not your bunny. Pick your gap before you hop, then go.
• Meadows are safe. Use them to pause for a moment and look at the traffic ahead.
• You don't have to go straight. A sideways hop can line you up with a better gap or a longer log.
• Logs carry you towards the edge. Hop forward early rather than riding one too far.
• When a railway light starts flashing, stay off the track. The train is faster than you think.
• Don't dawdle. The longer you wait, the closer the bottom of the view gets.
