Fruit Chop is a quick swiping game. Apples, oranges, melons, bananas, pineapples and strawberries are thrown up over a cutting board, and every swipe of your finger or mouse is a blade. Slice as many as you can, chain several into one swipe for a combo, and keep well clear of the bombs.

How to play Fruit Chop

1. Swipe across the big watermelon to start. On a computer, hold the mouse button down and drag; on a phone or tablet, drag your finger.
2. Fruit are thrown up from the bottom of the board in waves. Swipe through a fruit to cut it in half. Each fruit is worth one point.
3. Cut three or more fruit in one quick swipe for a combo. A combo is worth a bonus of one extra point per fruit.
4. Don't let fruit fall back off the bottom of the board. Each one that gets away costs a life, and you have three lives.
5. Never slice a bomb. Cutting one ends the game on the spot.
6. Slice a blue freeze banana to slow everything down for a few seconds, or a pink frenzy banana for a rush of free fruit from the sides.
7. Press P or the pause button to pause. The game pauses by itself when you switch tabs.

Rules

• The blade is the path of your swipe. Any fruit it touches is cut, however fast or slowly you move.
• Slices in one swipe count as one combo as long as there is less than about a third of a second between them. A longer pause starts a new chain.
• A combo of three fruit scores 3 + 3 = 6 points, a combo of four scores 4 + 4 = 8, and so on.
• A fruit only costs a life when it falls back out of the bottom of the board without being cut. Bombs, bananas and frenzy fruit that fly away cost nothing.
• If a bomb and a fruit are in the same swipe, the fruit you reach before the bomb still count. Nothing after the bomb does.
• Waves get bigger and faster as the game goes on. Bombs start from the third wave, and later waves can hold two or three.
• Freeze lasts five seconds and runs the board at under half speed. Frenzy lasts five seconds, flings fruit in from the sides, and holds back the next wave.
• Your best score is saved in your browser.

Fruit Chop tips and strategy

• Wait for the top of the arc. A fruit moves slowest at the top of its flight, so that is the easiest moment to cut it, and the moment most fruit bunch together for a combo.
• Swipe in short, flat strokes through a group rather than wild zigzags. Short strokes are easier to steer around bombs.
• Watch the bottom of the board. A fruit on its way down is about to cost you a life, so it comes first.
• Bombs have a fuse and a spark on top. When one sits in the middle of a bunch of fruit, cut the fruit on either side with two small swipes.
• Save your combos for when the fruit are close together. A three-fruit combo is worth twice as much as three single cuts.
• During a freeze, go for the fruit furthest away first: they are slow now, but they speed up again soon.
