About Basketball Shots
An arcade basketball machine in your browser. You get 60 seconds to sink as many shots as you can: swipe the ball up at the hoop, drop it through the net and keep a streak going to multiply your points. The ball bounces off the rim and the backboard like the real thing, and after ten baskets the hoop starts to slide from side to side.
Also called: basketball shots, hoops game, shooting hoops.
How to play Basketball Shots
- Put your finger (or the mouse) on the ball and swipe up toward the hoop, then let go.
- Where the swipe ends sets how far the ball goes: end it on the rim and the ball drops into the rim. End it higher and the ball flies deeper, toward the backboard; end it lower and it falls short. Swipe left or right of the hoop to aim off to that side.
- The speed of the swipe sets the arc. A slow, smooth swipe throws a high rainbow shot; a quick flick throws a flatter one.
- The clock starts with your first shot. You can shoot again as soon as a new ball appears, so you can have a couple of balls in the air at once.
- After 10 baskets the hoop starts moving from side to side, and after 20 it moves faster. Lead it: aim where it will be when the ball gets there.
- Press Esc or the pause button to pause. The game pauses by itself if you switch tabs.
Rules
- A basket is worth 2 points. A swish (in without touching the rim or the backboard) is worth 3.
- Baskets in a row build a streak multiplier: from the 3rd basket in a row every basket is worth double, from the 6th triple, and from the 9th four times as much. A swish in a ×4 streak is worth 12.
- A miss ends the streak and the multiplier goes back to ×1. A ball counts as missed once it hits the floor without going through the hoop.
- A ball counts only if it drops down through the rim from above.
- Balls already in the air when the clock hits zero still count if they go in.
- Your best round score is saved.
Basketball Shots tips and strategy
- Arc it. A high, slow shot drops more steeply into the rim, so it has more room to go in. Flat, fast shots clip the front of the rim.
- Keep the same swipe. Once you find the length and speed that swishes, repeat it: the physics is the same every time.
- The streak is worth more than speed. A string of nine baskets is worth four times as much per shot, so don't rush a shot you might miss.
- Swishes add up. Once you are hitting the rim, move your swipe end a touch up or down until the ball stops touching it.
- When the hoop moves, shoot as it passes the middle, or aim a little ahead of it in the direction it is going.
Basketball Shots questions
Why did my shot bounce out?
The rim is solid, and a ball that catches its front edge or clips the side bounces away, the same as on a real court. Shots with a higher arc (a slower swipe) come down more steeply and have more room to drop in. A ball that hits the backboard first can still go in off the board, but it won't be a swish.
How does the streak multiplier work?
Every basket in a row counts toward your streak. Baskets 1 and 2 score normally, from the 3rd they are doubled, from the 6th tripled, and from the 9th they are worth four times as much. A miss sets it back to ×1. The badge on the left of the court shows your streak.
When does the hoop start moving?
After your 10th basket in a round. It slides slowly from side to side, then speeds up after your 20th basket. The ball takes about a second to reach the hoop, so aim where the hoop is going to be.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes, it is made for it. Swipe up from the ball with your thumb. The page doesn't scroll while you swipe on the court, and the whole court fits on the screen. If you close the page mid-round, the round is saved and waits, paused, until you come back.
